Compression routers are used for cutting difficult to machine laminated and layered materials such as Carbon Fiber,
Fiberglass and plywood for example. The bi-directional flutes push the top and bottom of the material being milled
together to eliminate the possibility of “fraying” one side of the material. Due to the extreme abrasive qualities of
the fiber materials and the “stickiness” of the epoxies or resins used to make these sheets they have proven to be
very difficult to machine. The heat generated during the milling operation and the adhesion of the resins to the cut-
ter caused serious problems with tool life. But, with the development of the new geometries and the newest Dia-
mond Coatings by companies like CemeCom, machining these difficult materials has become dramatically easier.
In wood applications coatings are not necessary but are recommended. For machining of CFRP, GFRP and
Composites we recommend AeroSpeed coating. For Graphites and Green Compacts we recommend
CarbonSpeed coating. Both of these coatings were developed specifically for these materials and offer the
maximum adhesion to the carbide with the smoothest and hardest finish possible. Please note that diamond coated
tools cannot be resharpened.
* AERO at the end means AeroSpeed Coated, and CARD means CarbonSpeed Coated
